Spain 1929 – Pro Exposiciones de Sevilla y Barcelona

Object ID: S299. Complete commemorative set of 14 stamps, Edifil 434–447, issued 15 February 1929 to promote the exhibitions of Seville and Barcelona. Includes the 20 céntimos Urgente value. Subjects include the Santa María, exhibition architecture, ceremonial figures, King Alfonso XIII, and an express-post gazelle.

Technical: Spain; 1929; engraved/recess printing (calcografía), Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre; standard comb perforation 11¼; white unwatermarked paper. Blue reverse control numbers appear on most denominations and are characteristics of the issue, not cancellation marks.

Condition: Mainly Mint Hinged (MH), with variable centring and gum preservation. Several stamps show hinge traces/remnants, attached paper and minor age-related gum changes. Front designs generally present well. No stamp-by-stamp transmitted-light check has yet established whether thinning is present, especially on the 4 pesetas, 10 pesetas and 20c Urgente values.

Catalogue valuation: Supplied Edifil page lists the complete 14-stamp set at EUR 280 MNH and EUR 170 MH, or EUR 525 MNH / EUR 320 MH for well-centred sets. These are catalogue references, not cash realisation values.

Market valuation: MH complete-series asking prices previously identified around EUR 102–125; an indexed Catawiki bid of EUR 53 was not a confirmed final selling price. Given variable centring, gum disturbances and unverified thinning, our cautious collection appraisal is EUR 65. Indicative quick-sale scenario EUR 40–55 and retail asking range EUR 70–95 are provisional estimates, not completed sale comparables.

Collection Grade: 3.5/5; Investment Grade: 3/5; Decision: KEEP as a complete set. Inspect the 4p, 10p and 20c Urgente individually before revising the valuation.
