South Australia. 1906. Queen Victoria, “Kangaroo” design. 2.5p. Indigo. SG 239. Cancelled. S40
South Australia — Queen Victoria — 2½d — SG 239
Country: South Australia
Issue: Queen Victoria — Kangaroo design
Denomination: 2½ Pence
Colour: Indigo / shade as specified for SG239 in your SG catalogue
SG Number: SG 239
Watermark: Crown SA (Close), W13
Perforation: 12 × 11½, comb
Condition: Used
SG Catalogue Value (Used): £4.00
Condition: approximately Fine Used. Centering is reasonably good and the deep blue colour remains strong. Cancellation is fairly prominent, including strikes over Victoria’s portrait, but the design remains clearly readable. Perforations are substantially complete, with some uneven teeth.
The reverse is the main weakness: considerable yellow/brown age toning and a large old hinge/paper remnant across the upper central area. A thin underneath the remnant cannot be excluded. I would leave the remnant untouched.
Estimated market value: roughly €1–2 in this condition; working collection value around €1.50.
Decision: KEEP — SET COMPONENT / PERF VARIETY REPRESENTATIVE
Investment score: ★☆☆☆☆ 1/5
